NATICK, MA -- (Marketwired) -- 12/04/13 -- TwinStrata, an innovator in cloud-integrated storage solutions, unveiled today its 2014 predictions for cloud storage. In the wake of 2013's highs (majority of businesses storing data in cloud) and lows (cloud outages and shutdowns), 2014 will mix old with new as organizations and cloud service providers alike mature their use of this technology within the context of their broader environments.
So what does that really mean for 2014? "Traditional hardware solutions labeled 'cloud' will no longer fly," said TwinStrata founder and CEO Nicos Vekiarides. "Traditional hardware vendors relabeling racks of equipment as cloud can no longer command massive margins and will be pushed into software as a service models or risk revenue falls from grace."
At the same time, Vekiarides predicts that "global companies will begin pursuing multi-cloud strategies based on geographic considerations with American CSPs in the States and European or Asian CSPs in other geographies" due to the Snowden effect. Meanwhile, says Vekiardies, "2014 won't just be about getting data into the cloud or managing the data once it's in, it will give rise to more innovation around getting data out of the cloud and getting it into one cloud from another" as customers demand that their service level agreements include data export, data migration and data mobility, not just data security, access and availability.
Of the 10 predictions, three acknowledge changes -- or not -- as a result of the exit of Nirvanix, while two address security concerns aggravated by the Snowden/NSA affair. Vekiarides even predicts that one particular "dead" technology will rise again. For the full list of TwinStrata's 2014 cloud storage predictions, continue reading Nicos Vekiarides' blog post here.
