PORTLAND, OR -- (Marketwired) -- 12/11/13 -- Puppet Labs, the leading provider of IT automation software, today announced it is collaborating with Dell on automation solutions for Dell's unified management platform -- Active System Manager. Scheduled to ship in 2014, Active System Manager 7.5 will enable customers to further enable choice and accelerate convergence for a broader range of customers.
According to IDC, the market for converged infrastructure is growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 55%, reaching $17.8 billion in 2016 [1]. Yet while converged hardware supporting virtualized environments promises to respond more quickly to the needs of the business, IT operations teams using today's systems management tools are unable to capture these benefits, especially when working with heterogeneous infrastructure investments. To address this opportunity, Puppet Labs is extending the converged workload automation capabilities of Active System Manager to enable customers to fully embrace their heterogeneous IT environments.
Dell Active System Manager will be integrated with Puppet Labs' automation technologies for provisioning, configuration, and orchestration. The integrated solution will allow IT operations customers to automate the management of compute, network, and storage converged infrastructure, resulting in faster, more efficient delivery of high-impact business applications.
"Puppet Labs' IT automation is helping our customers take advantage of converged infrastructure to increase agility across the datacenter," said Luke Kanies, founder and CEO of Puppet Labs. "With Dell's leadership in enterprise infrastructure and renewed focus on innovation, they're ideally positioned to deliver the next generation in converged infrastructure management."
"We are excited to introduce Active System Manager 7.5 to our customers in collaboration with Puppet Labs. Together, we have augmented Dell IP in response to the challenges our customers face in building heterogeneous environments," said Sam Greenblatt, chief technology officer, Dell Enterprise Solutions. "The pervasiveness of the Puppet Labs open source solution with Active System Manager will help customers accelerate their convergence plans and run their data centers more smoothly and efficiently."
Puppet Labs also announced that Dell is becoming a major contributor to Project Razor, a next-generation hardware provisioning solution curated by Puppet Labs. Customers of IT infrastructure have come to expect rapid provisioning and dynamic scaling from their virtualized and cloud infrastructure; Razor delivers these same behaviors with hardware infrastructure.
