LOS GATOS, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 12/19/13 -- Pertino, a company reinventing networking for the cloud era, today announced its membership in the Open Networking Foundation (ONF). ONF is a user-driven organization dedicated to accelerating the adoption of open Software-Defined Networking (SDN) through open standards development. Pertino will collaborate with more than 100 member companies, from global enterprises to startups, that offer unique perspectives and expertise in several industries including cloud computing, software, and telecom.
SDN is an approach to networking that gives IT administrators unparalleled programmability and control. Businesses of all sizes find SDN boosts agility, simplifies management, and reduces operational costs that were standard with hardware-based networking. As IT pros face the connectivity demands of the expanding remote workforce and increasing security concerns from the rise in bring-your-own-device (BYOD), SDN is becoming critical to enabling reliable and dynamic remote management.
"The abundance of approaches to Northbound Interfaces (NBI) is impeding the adoption of SDN. ONF's NBI Working Group is tackling this problem by identifying and developing information models for a small number of important, open interfaces for specific use cases, which helps the industry develop standard or popular approaches to SDN programmability," said Dan Pitt, executive director of the Open Networking Foundation. "The efforts of our contributing members support the rapid adoption of SDN and simplify the implementation process for software developers and end-users."
"Over 3,000 cloud-based networks have been generated on Pertino's SDN-powered Cloud Network Engine platform. Our expertise in SDN and network service virtualization technologies will allow us to contribute to the Open Networking Foundation in a meaningful way," said Scott Hankins, co-founder and CTO of Pertino. "Open networks will drive more innovation, deeper integration of services, and greater simplification; all essential elements for an IT world that is being transformed by cloud and mobile."
Pertino combines SDN with the power of the cloud and network virtualization technologies to deliver cost-effective, cloud networking capabilities to small-to-medium businesses. In October, Pertino introduced AppScape, the industry's first app store for cloud network services, based on the company's recently announced Network Service Virtualization (NSV) technology, and Pertino for Android, which brings the power of cloud networking to Android mobile devices.

About Pertino
Founded in 2011, Pertino is reinventing networking for the cloud era, and in the process, providing a catalyst for democratizing IT for small-to-medium businesses. Globalization, cloud-enabled IT, and growing demand for always-connected people, devices, and things is affecting businesses of all sizes -- making the "outside network" as critical as the inside one. However, traditional VPN networks have not kept pace. Pertino's revolutionary Cloud Network Engine enables any business to build a simple and secure cloud-based network that connects people to IT resources from anywhere on the planet. No hardware. No networking knowledge. No upfront investment. To achieve this breakthrough, Pertino has developed a software platform that combines the power and pervasiveness of the cloud with Software-defined Networking (SDN), network and service virtualization technology and cloud-based management. The company is venture funded and headquartered in Los Gatos, Calif. For more information or to try Pertino for yourself, please visit pertino.com.
