FREMONT, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 01/21/14 -- AMAX, a leading innovator of Data Center and HPC solutions for OpenStack, Hadoop and Parallel Computing, announced today the integration of the CloudMax ON-7448 Open Switch into its OCP and ClusterMax lines of data center and HPC cluster solutions.
The CloudMax ON-7448 Open Switch is the modern answer to eliminating the rigidity and vendor lock-in of legacy distributed network architectures, offering unprecedented agility, scalability and cost savings. The CloudMax ON-7448 Open Switch is powered by Cumulus Linux, an open and extensible true Linux operating system that enables the latest Linux applications and automation tools to run on industry standard networking gear for maximum performance and flexibility while reducing the overall cost of networking to your data center. CloudMax ON-7448 Open Switch features a 48-port 10Gb SFP+ switch based on the industry leading Broadcom Trident chipset, preloaded with the Cumulus Linux network operating system and ONIE (Open Network Install Environment) for zero touch installation.
"We are pleased to be working with AMAX to extend OCP, ONIE and the benefits associated with disaggregating hardware and software to a broader community of users," said Reza Malekzadeh, VP of Business, Cumulus Networks. "Open industry partnerships like this are highly advantageous because they offer choice and flexibility across the network -- ultimately leading to better, more tailored architectures."
The Cumulus Linux network operating system enables the following benefits to datacenter networking:
"We're seeing a major paradigm shift in how we go about networking," said Jean Shih, President of AMAX. "Increasing performance and agility demands within the data center and the rise of the cloud require the need for networking to also be flexible, admin-defined and cost-effective. The previous static models of networking can no longer serve an on-demand market with a wide range of requirements that are constantly changing. By integrating an Open Switch option into AMAX's data center products, AMAX maintains its forward vision by placing the most advanced networking tools in the hands of its customers, giving them the keys to configure their solution in the manner they want without compromise."
