SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 02/05/14 -- Today 3scale launched API Alchemy (http://apialchemy.3scale.net), a beta version information resource and education portal designed to help businesses, developers and designers learn and share more about how to create and manage API's (Application Programming Interfaces). The vendor-neutral, curated site captures the best of the best material produced on APIs.
API Alchemy provides a broad spectrum of topics from how to build and manage APIs, to crafting a successful API strategy, instituting best practices or selecting an appropriate revenue model. Material can be technical, academic or business oriented, and will address both public and private APIs. The collection allows community feedback and will be built out over time, eventually including community provided content and rankings. API Alchemy is not product oriented.
There is currently a lot of discussion about APIs, which are protocols that allow third-party software programs to interact with an application, opening up selected data or services to be used by other applications. "The technology and business opportunities APIs present are many, and the market opportunity high. But even though the overall value for developers and business is clear, it's early stage and development around APIs can be tricky," said Kirsten Jones, API Ninja and Evangelist, 3scale. "With API Alchemy we aim to help both the creators of APIs and the developers who consume them reach their goals faster by sharing outcomes, ideas, use cases, and best practices."
API Alchemy joins API Commons and API Strategy & Practice Conferences as 3scale-backed, vendor-neutral resources for the API industry. "APIs have the potential to generate huge benefits across many industries, and as a company we see it as a big part of our mission to help individuals and organizations unlock these benefits," said Steve Willmott, CEO, 3scale. "While we do this through our products, we're also very committed to open community initiatives like API Commons, The API Strategy & Practice Conference, and now API Alchemy as resources to increase understanding and hasten the evolution of API best practice in industry-inclusive ways."
API Commons allows developers to share and reuse both public and private APIs under creative common licenses without legal concern. It launched in November 2013 in partnership with Kin Lane of API Evangelist. The API Strategy & Practice Conference series, also co-organized by 3scale and API Evangelist offers a unique program of keynotes, panels and themed sessions to provide insights into the potential of APIs, best practices, and how to craft a successful API strategy. The conference series focuses on what works for API developers and consumers alike by bringing industry leaders together in one forum. Now in its second year, the third conference will be held in March 2014 in Amsterdam.

About API Commons
API Commons is a community site where developers can share and reuse both public and private APIs under creative common licenses without legal concern. Though they are transforming the web and business in radical ways, the cost in time and resources of creating code for countless and slightly different APIs is daunting. To help address this, API Commons was launched in November 2013 by 3scale and Kin Lane of API Evangelist. It allows anyone to declare API interfaces (method patterns, messages, data models or any other related construct) they have authored as reusable, modifiable and shareable by others. The objective is to enable authors of interfaces to declare what is reusable in simple terms, allow others to adopt reusable interfaces, and encourage sharing any adaptations back to the public commons. http://apicommons.org/
