WAYNE, PA -- (Marketwired) -- 02/11/14 -- Point.io today launched APIdoc, the first in a series of offerings to enable secure data access, sharing and collaboration. The industry's first single API that facilitates connections to all file-sharing and storage technologies, APIdoc enables access to files wherever they reside - whether behind the firewall or in the cloud. Cloud providers, application developers, systems integrators and IT departments can easily integrate with existing applications, simplify software design and significantly reduce development and maintenance costs, while ensuring that digital assets are secure, auditable and conform to corporate compliance policies.
Previously, organizations required a separate connection to each storage location, resulting in extensive time and effort from highly skilled technical resources for development and maintenance. APIdoc enables developers to write to a single API that then passes the appropriate commands to various storage connectors. APIdoc currently supports 12 storage connectors, including Box, Dropbox, Microsoft SharePoint, IBM Filenet Content Manager, EMC Documentum, Google Drive, Microsoft SkyDrive, Amazon S3, HP Worksite, docSTAR, SunGard and Salesforce.com -- and will add two to five new connectors each month. In addition, APIdoc comes with a fully integrated SDK that supports rapid development of any custom storage connector under the single API connector platform.
"In a matter of weeks, APIdoc simply eliminated months of development time," said Nathan Tamblin, Co-Founder of Stratospherix, maker of FileBrowser. "Now we have access to every storage type that Point.io supports through a single API."
"Much to IT's chagrin, it is common to see different groups inside an organization using different vendors for similar functionality. Services that reduce the complexity this causes and allow for simpler application development can reduce costs and improve user experiences," said Alan Lepofsky, VP and Principal at Analyst Constellation Research.
Other key benefits of APIdoc include:
"APIdoc is the most comprehensive, easy-to-use utility to connect a company's data sources in the market today," said Tim Panagos, CTO of Point.io. "The complexities of integrating structured data from databases or production systems and unstructured data like documents and spreadsheets can be overwhelming and expensive. APIdoc isolates all of that complexity from user applications and lets developers focus on true value-add rather than tedious internal plumbing."
APIdoc is now available to organizations looking for a single, secure interface to all corporate data across all applications. For further information, visit: www.point.io/apidoc.
