DAYTON, OH -- (Marketwired) -- 03/19/14 -- Imagine being a team of high school students with the chance to work with a local manufacturing company to build a remote-controlled, 15-pound robot. If that wasn't fun enough, you then get to take your robot, place it in a pen and fight to the "death" with another robot. The last one standing after rounds of one-on-one competitions wins.

That's how Ohio Robotics, Inc. (http://ohiorobotics.org), a 501c3 non-profit, and its XtremeBOTS program is helping Ohio students gain practical knowledge of science, technology, engineering and math -- essential skills for manufacturing.

"The success of XtremeBOTS has been fantastic," says Steve Staub, president of Dayton-based Staub Manufacturing Solutions and founding member of Ohio Robotics. "We have several examples of students going on to be machine operators, degreed engineers and more. The XtremeBOTS program really teaches kids to work together as a team and solve problems."

By some estimates, there are 500,000 open jobs in U.S. manufacturing that can't be filled because the U.S. workforce doesn't have the necessary skills. While this workforce crisis impedes the growth of the U.S. manufacturing sector, it's also opening up an opportunity for a new generation to earn an average of $77,505 annually, including pay and benefits.

Growing Interest Builds Growing List of Sponsors
Interest in the program has grown over the years. This year, Cincom Systems (http://www.cincom.com), a worldwide software provider based in Cincinnati, Ohio, has joined the list of sponsors.
