SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/22/14 -- Swarm has created the first iBeacon device for small business retailers. The Swarm Portal foot traffic counter, the newest addition to Swarm's portfolio of smart devices, is a simple and innovative way to keep track of your store's performance metrics. Portal was designed with the small business owner in mind, with easy peel-and-stick installation and store analytics on any device, anytime. By taking a consumer-centric approach to store data, and offering enterprise-grade analytics at a remarkably low price-point, Swarm is able to bring beacon-based devices to retailers of all sizes.
Swarm is addressing a multi-billion dollar small business retail market largely devoid of tools for easily capturing and analyzing in-store data. While large retailers can afford expensive systems that monitor things like store traffic and sales conversion, smaller retailers typically rely on estimates, obscuring actual performance and making it difficult to plan for staffing, inventory, marketing and more. By offering an affordable solution that delivers accurate real-time metrics, Swarm is removing retail management guesswork and helping store owners be more strategic.
"Small businesses, which represent 94% of retail establishments in the US, struggle to compete with big box stores and ecommerce companies every day," said Rudd Davis, co-founder and CEO at Swarm. "At Swarm, we want to make advanced technology simple and easy to use so that mom and pops have better tools than Walmart. Most store owners don't know how many people walked through their doors in a given day, let alone what percentage of them actually made a purchase. Existing retail monitoring and management solutions are expensive, inaccurate, require professional installation and ongoing maintenance, and fail to provide actionable insights. Swarm Portal is the first smart device for retail. It's an inexpensive, easy to use tool for helping SMB retailers operate their businesses better."
Swarm Portal is the newest device that works with the Swarm platform. Swarm has sold over 30,000 smart devices into retail locations to date and is the worldwide leader in retail beacons. iBeacon is a new technology that extends location services in Apple's mobile operating system, iOS. Today, Swarm Portal uses bluetooth to relay foot traffic information wirelessly to the retailer's smartphone or tablet. Retailers can use Portal's iBeacon capabilities to engage with shoppers personally, and Swarm will provide even more valuable insights to a retail owner all in one centralized dashboard.
"Swarm has been extremely helpful to my business, and the Portal device takes it to another level with increased accuracy, automated notifications, and access to my store's metrics through the app," said Jim Tuttle, owner of the Bike Peddler, an Oregon-based sporting goods retailer. "This is truly a must-have tool for small business owners."

"Companies like Nest and Dropcam have brought smart devices into the home, and I'd like to think we're doing the same for small businesses. The overwhelming response from the market suggests we're doing just that," said Ryan Denehy, co-founder and EVP of Sales at Swarm.
