ATLANTA, GA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/28/14 -- Yik Yak, the social messaging app for hyper-local engagement, is rolling out a new feature called "PEEK" that allows users to look in on important events or stay connected to their respective campus while remote. Through a unique combination of geo-location and user anonymity, PEEKing ensures an organic, unfiltered feed of news coming from a specific location.
"Imagine being able to PEEK into Thailand to learn about the political tone of the region or Ukraine to read the unfiltered stories and comments of local citizens," said, Tyler Droll, CEO and cofounder of Yik Yak. "Not only are users logging in daily to check out what's happening on their home campus, but we see PEEKing as the only way to get a true, unfiltered look at what's happening in a certain area at any given moment."
"We're building Yik Yak into a technology that fulfills a higher purpose of delivering organic and unfiltered truths, which cannot be said for other news mediums," said Brooks Buffington, COO and cofounder of Yik Yak. "The potential for Yik Yak's PEEKing feature during important global events, or even an event such as the Super Bowl or Presidential Inauguration, is unmatched with any other social platform."
PEEKing will feature a rotating list of active regions, initially including 60 college and university campuses, based on the popularity and activity of a given area. In addition, Yik Yak will continue to add locations to the PEEKing feature, such as music festivals, sporting events and more. Currently, 40 percent of active users access the PEEKing feature daily.
Founded in late 2013 by entrepreneurs Brooks Buffington and Tyler Droll, Yik Yak is aimed at connecting age-appropriate users within a mile-and-a-half geographical radius.
The app is currently available for download on iOS and Android devices.
