AJAX, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 06/04/14 -- Volkswagen Canada is pleased to report May sales of 6,465 new cars and light trucks. This represents the best May result since Volkswagen Canada first began sales in 1952. Year-to-date, 24,390 new Volkswagens have been sold through the company's 136 dealers.

Once again, the Jetta compact sedan was the company's most popular model, with 3,412 sold. The Jetta features a unique combination of size, style and value, making it a consistent top-seller in the Canadian market.

Joining the Jetta last month was the all-new, 7th generation Golf GTI. The latest version of the original "pocket rocket" went on sale just one week ago and has already generated a king-sized amount of excitement. Previously released in Europe, the new GTI is already an award winner, and has been eagerly anticipated by a long line of diehard fans.

The GTI will be joined by the 2013 "World Car of the Year" when the all-new Golf arrives later this spring. Available in 3 and 5 door versions with a choice of direct-injected turbocharged gasoline or TDI Clean Diesel powerplants, the Golf brings new levels of comfort and refinement to the hatchback class.
