SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/10/14 -- QCon New York 2014 -- Azul Systems®, Inc. (Azul), the award-winning leader in Java runtime solutions, today announced the general availability of its Zing® runtime for Java, release 5.10. The new Zing release extends production support for new server-grade Amazon AWS instances, is certified for use in Big Data applications running Cloudera Enterprise 5, and gives Java developers and DevOps teams a new set of compiler APIs and other features that extend the functionality and scope of Azul's ReadyNow! technology.
Key new ReadyNow! features in Zing 5.10 include:
In addition to the new ReadyNow! features, Zing's ability to support cloud deployments on Amazon is also extended in release 5.10. Along with existing support for RHEL, SLES, CentOS and Ubuntu, Zing 5.10 adds support for Amazon Linux and is now fully supported on all Amazon instance types that utilize HVM (hardware virtual machine) virtualization, providing operations teams with a range of cost-effective, powerful new deployment options in the cloud.
"Beyond our new cloud and Big Data-centric capabilities, Zing 5.10 is the most developer-empowering Zing release we've ever built," said Scott Sellers, Azul Systems president and CEO. "Our goal with this new Zing release is to give leading-edge Java DevOps teams the tools they need to monitor, control and tune the behavior of latency and throughput-sensitive Java applications."
"Like most developers building applications at scale, Java developers are always looking for better control over their runtime environment," said Stephen O'Grady, principal analyst at RedMonk. "Azul's focus on exposing latent JVM features and capabilities, therefore, is likely to be well-received by those building Java applications for the enterprise."
Zing 5.10 Availability
Zing 5.10 is a 64-bit JVM that complies with the Java SE 7 and SE 6 standards, and runs on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, Ubuntu, Amazon Linux and CentOS. Version 5.10 of the Zing runtime for Java is available immediately.
Existing Azul customers and partners can download Zing 5.10 from Azul's Support portal, while prospective users and new ISV partners can access the Zing binaries via the Zing Trial page, located at http://info.azulsystems.com/ZingTrialSignup.html. Developers working on open source projects can also gain access to free Zing subscriptions by sending an email to zing_oss@azulsystems.com.
