Meru Networks AP122 802.11ac Wall Plate Access Point Enables Hotels to Ensure Uninterrupted Service and Deliver High-Density Wi-Fi

Inconspicuous, High-Performance Design Provides an Ideal Solution for In-Room Connectivity

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/23/14 -- Meru Networks® (NASDAQ: MERU), a leader in intelligent Wi-Fi networking, today announced that a growing number of hotels and resorts around the world are planning to deploy its AP122 802.11ac wall plate access point to ensure uninterrupted coverage and deliver high-density Wi-Fi. In-room deployments of the AP122 ensure high performance regardless of challenges introduced by widely varied construction materials.

"A family of four staying with us will typically have 10 to 15 devices when laptops, phones, tablets and gaming devices are all taken into account," said Lijo John, IT manager for the Ramada Downtown in Dubai, UAE. "Hall-mounted access points serving rooms on both sides aren't always best positioned to handle the load. The Meru AP122 wall-plate will give us the high-performance, high-density characteristics of 'gigabit Wi-Fi' with minimal footprint for in-room deployments. It's a perfect solution."

A poll announced in April by Hotels.com (http://bit.ly/1hDA2ZN) showed that Wi-Fi access ranks above even showers as the leading in-room requirement for travelers. Wireless access was second only to food when respondents listed must-haves on-premise when seeking lodging away from home. But maintaining guest satisfaction by ensuring consistent coverage and performance in hotels and resorts is an ongoing challenge. Hotel walls, ceilings and floors typically contain much more electrical conduit, water pipes and concrete reinforcement than other buildings, limiting Wi-Fi coverage and reducing data rates. In-room, wall-plate access points address these issues.

The AP122 is a dual-radio 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WLAN access point with a two-stream design, enabling it to operate in both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. It delivers an aggregate data rate of 1.2 Gbps of data for demanding applications such as video and voice. Designed to be placed in any location flush to a wall surface, the AP122 can be installed by non-technical hospitality service personnel using standard wall junction boxes.

"The AP122 is the perfect solution for hotels and resorts whose construction characteristics and device loads make delivering high-density Wi-Fi difficult," said Srinath Sarang, co-founder, vice president and general manager of Meru's hospitality business unit. "It is the ideal solution for hotels, who are moving beyond 802.11n to in-room deployment of 802.11ac access points to help meet guests' needs well into the future."
