CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwired) -- 10/16/14 -- Today at IoT World Forum, VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), announced it has joined the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) to further advance and support enterprise Internet of Things (IoT) initiatives. VMware solutions enable end users to work at the speed of life across smartphones, tablets, desktops and peripherals, while also enabling organizations to benefit from a full range of other interconnected devices and systems.
The IIC was founded in 2014 to further development, adoption and wide-spread use of interconnected machines, intelligent analytics and people at work. The IIC accomplishes its mission through an independently-run consortium of technology innovators, industrial companies, academia and government. Joining the IIC demonstrates VMware's commitment to drive innovation in the mobile-cloud era and to enable customers to execute on practical IoT use cases.
"We are excited to join a leading association that actively promotes IoT standards and brings some of the most innovative industry partners together to advance IoT in the enterprise," said Sanjay Poonen, executive vice president and general manager, End-User Computing, VMware. "We chose to join the IIC because of its tenacious goal to accelerate IoT in the workplace, educate the industry on standards and deliver best practices for IoT. We look forward to helping the IIC achieve this mission by offering VMware's expertise in developing technology for connected devices, helping organizations implement mobile strategies and securing corporate information across device types and operating systems."
"We are pleased to welcome VMware to the IIC," said Dr. Richard Soley, executive director, Industrial Internet Consortium. "We welcome their extensive experience in smart device management as we advance the mission of the IIC in the creation of testbeds and use cases."
