SANDY, UT -- (Marketwired) -- 11/04/14 -- Opengear (http://www.opengear.com), a leading provider of critical infrastructure management solutions through advanced console servers, remote management, monitoring, and cellular out-of-band products, today announced new software for its SMART OOB ACM-series of remote management gateways and its SMART OOB IM-series of infrastructure managers focusing on expanded management capabilities, increased flexibility and an enhanced user experience. The software integrates with Opengear's appliances and is available at no additional cost.
Network administrators will have instant visibility into an unprecedented amount of critical, real-time information from remote devices. The smart dashboard will allow for secure remote interaction with key data -- such as statuses on power levels, network availability, server performance, temperature conditions, cage door positions, etc. -- from any web interface, including via mobile phones and tablets. Network managers who have received an alert of an issue with their remote infrastructures can quickly see the status of all devices at the site, even if the main network connection has been cut or the onsite router/firewall has been misconfigured. Problems can be diagnosed from any computer, smartphone, or tablet, enabling administrators to take quick action and restore functionality with a single click.
Exponential growth of M2M and Internet of Things applications are driving the need for smarter real-time decision-making, deeper data analysis, and more robust data storage at the network edge. Moving this level of intelligence to the edge makes it even more critical that these devices maintain their high availability so that -- when there are issues -- problems can be identified and quickly remediated. This can only be accomplished with a SMART Out-of-Band solution. Today's software release advances Opengear's continued industry leadership in smart out-of-band management.
This release also continues Opengear's emphasis on multi-vendor, multi-device management usability with the addition of the Raritan PX PDUs. Opengear continues to expand the number of 3rd party devices supported, thus reducing complexity and MTTR.
Opengear's addition of Connection Manager and Cellular Dashboard widgets improves efficiency and increases remote insight, at-a-glance status, monitoring and pro-active alerting, resulting in peace of mind for network admins. Opengear provides instant access and control of anything, anywhere, when something goes wrong.
"Out-of-band management is at the heart of IT resilience, and we continue to focus on our SMART OOB solution by developing increased access, monitoring, management, control, and decision-making," said Rick Stevenson, CEO, Opengear. "With this new software release, we're giving network administrators the accessible software capabilities they need to keep their remote infrastructures up and running. We see continued out-of-band innovation as especially imperative with the Internet of Things driving toward 26 billion connected units by the end of the decade. Having the ability to interact with critical information and data in real-time, from far away and from any device, will be a must. To do this as efficiently as possible, we want to move computation to the data, rather than moving data to the computation."
Opengear is sponsoring the first Fog Computing Expo in San Jose, California this November, where leading IT and CIO professionals will gather to discuss how the BYOD world is impacting the Internet of Things. Please join us to discover how Fog Computing extends to the cross platform, cross operations issues associated with managing switches, routers, sensors and other devices wherever they are located.
