SAN DIEGO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 01/26/15 -- CyberTECH, one of the nation's leading cybersecurity and IoT based ecosystem networks, is recognizing National Data Privacy Day with a day-long seminar on the impact the Internet of Things (IoT) is having on individual and corporate privacy. Co-sponsors of the seminar include Securing Our eCity, a recognized cybersecurity awareness and education Foundation; nationally recognized identity theft awareness organization, Identity Theft Resource Center; and the nation's most distinguished privacy think tank research institution, the Ponemon Institute. The invitation-only event features some of the top names in the security industry from around the country.
"We are at a critical juncture where the concerns around The Internet of Things can be addressed before the tidal wave of products built around it are actually brought to market," comments Darin Andersen, Chairman of CyberTECH, "Issues of security and privacy need immediate attention if consumers, government, schools and corporations are going to get ahead of these problems and assure themselves protection."
The day starts with a roundtable discussion led by Chris Preimesberger, editor of eWeek and a well-respected authority in the field. Immediately following, there will be three keynote addresses delivered, including:
Interactive Scenario-based Sessions
Following the keynotes, the seminar becomes participatory with a unique exercise for attendees.
"We not only want this day to be interactive," notes Andersen, "we want to generate some intriguing and potentially actionable ideas. So, we worked with Larry Ponemon of the Ponemon Institute to design an exercise much like one his think tank might go through."
A scenario-based group exercise, led by Mr. Ponemon, will assign subgroups the responsibility for a specific role such as consumer: manufacturer; or supply chain. The groups will be presented with 2-5 discussion questions to actively explore, share ideas and provide answers from their respective roles in the scenario. Each roundtable will then share their thoughts with the entire group.
"We are making the findings of the exercise public through videos and white papers to encourage the development of actionable solutions," Andersen noted. "This is not a day for theory, it's a day for action. Of course, we're not suggesting our results will provide all the answers, but they should provide some of the right questions and many of the right areas for further exploration."
The seminar will conclude with two panel discussions. The first panel, on "Privacy Divide: Real or Perceived" moderated by Maggey Felix, of CyberTECH and Justine Phillips of Sheppard Mullin, will include panelists from security companies iWebGate, TriNet, and Palo Alto Networks; a representative from academia; and the founding member of Securing Our eCity Foundation.
The second panel, on "Security, Privacy and Trust in IoT Platforms," will be moderated by Cleve Adams, CEO of security firm AirPatrol, will include panelists from the Department of Defense, Cisco, Xerox, Ntrepid, and Independent Security Evaluators.
