AJAX, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 05/01/14 -- With spring slowly creeping up on the country, Volkswagen Canada saw its strongest sales month of all time. A total of 6,483 new Volkswagens were sold during April, bringing the year-to-date figure to 17,925.

Tailored to the Canadian market, the Jetta compact sedan remains the company's most popular model, and one of the top-selling vehicles in the country. During the month, 3,761 were sold. With a long line of standard features and an excellent reputation for safety, fuel efficiency and value, the Jetta continues to establish new sales records.

Volkswagen continuously seeks to deliver the most innovative product lineup. This spring, a new, highly-efficient and powerful 1.8 litre turbocharged engine was added to the Passat and Beetle, including the Beetle Convertible. An example of Volkswagen's "intelligent downsizing", these smaller, more efficient engines are coupled with turbochargers to ensure excellent performance and significant increases in fuel economy.

Volkswagen is an industry leader in the pursuit of ever more efficient powertrains, and also offers a full lineup of vehicles powered by award-winning TDI Clean Diesel engines, as well as a turbocharged hybrid version of the Jetta, which was recently named as a "Canadian Green Car" award winner.
