WALTHAM, MA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/13/14 -- Sanbolic today announced the general availability of a new software-defined storage (SDS) solution that addresses the complexity and cost of managing growing and often geo-distributed data and workloads. Sanbolic's patented software platform allows businesses to manage scale-out of converged and legacy storage architectures and efficiently weave server-side storage into their environment.
"Not only has Sanbolic helped us significantly decrease storage management complexity, but we've also been able to get the most from our existing infrastructure investments and save in operating and capital costs," said Gabriel Gallardo, IT Manager at Grupo Latino Radio.
Sanbolic's host-based storage scale-out technology is enterprise-validated and in production at hundreds of government organizations and enterprises around the globe, addressing the need to tune storage performance, availability, and services to the needs of each workload.
"Sanbolic is enabling IT organizations to benefit from a much-desired new approach to managing and optimizing their data center infrastructure. Its enterprise-grade solutions can not only create new agilities and efficiencies, but can also do so with dramatic cost savings," noted Mark Peters, Senior Analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. "The Sanbolic solution already bridges the gaps between traditional enterprise hardware and the open platforms used in many hyper-scale data centers; and this latest offering gives enterprises a way to centralize and scale out hybrid storage resources for distributed environments -- essentially making both data and workloads simultaneously highly available and yet elastic -- in order to meet changing business demands."
Available for Windows, Linux, Xen, KVM, Hyper-V and integration with OpenStack, Sanbolic now provides fluid, responsive storage resource management at the compute layer that scales out and ensures SLAs based on the growing workload and data needs of global businesses. The new SDS solution offers storage-agnostic management, optimization and dynamic block and file scale-out across all leading on-premise and cloud storage vendors (EMC, NetApp, HDS, AWS), including commodity storage, to ensure the fluid availability and responsiveness of enterprise data and mission-critical applications as business needs grow and change.
"Hyper-scale architecture has proven its economical and architectural benefits for the large cloud providers. The ability to independently scale compute and storage on an as-needed basis using best-of-breed components is essential for the transformation toward software-defined data centers. The hurdle for today's enterprises in adopting next-generation Server SAN software platforms is lack of maturity compared with the traditional hardware appliance model," added David Floyer, CTO and co-founder of Wikibon. "Unified management and scale-out Server SAN platforms such as Sanbolic's offer an exciting path to the cloud-defined future -- gradually layering software-defined services on top of existing IT infrastructure and non-disruptively migrating into a modern data center architecture that supports the exponential data growth and fluid workload demands of global businesses. The addition of Linux, XEN, KVM and OpenStack to Sanbolic's platform is a major extension, and will allow Sanbolic to manage and provision enterprise compute, storage and data management across geo-distributed data centers."
Running in physical, virtual or cloud server instances to manage any data center environment at hyper-scale, the new host-based storage controller drives efficient storage aggregation and centralizes management. Consolidating a heterogeneous, highly-available pool of legacy storage arrays into a storage abstraction layer, customers can now
"We're in the midst of a major infrastructure market shift as enterprises realize they can no longer rely on legacy data and storage management tools. We're giving enterprises a simplified way to manage their entire data center operations in a centralized platform -- regardless of how geographically distributed or siloed their current IT infrastructure may be," noted Momchil (Memo) Michailov, CEO of Sanbolic.
