FAIRFAX, VA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/09/14 -- On Monday, news broke that the Heartbleed bug causes a vulnerability in the OpenSSL cryptographic library. LastPass has released a tool for anyone to check websites that you've entrusted with your information to determine if there was a potential breach.
The site checker tool is available at https://lastpass.com/heartbleed/.
The OpenSSL cryptographic library is used by roughly two-thirds of all websites on the Internet, so it is likely a number of websites consumers and businesses utilize daily have been affected.
LastPass has also rolled out an additional feature for current LastPass users. By running the LastPass Security Check feature on their account, users will automatically be given a list of potentially vulnerable sites, the last time the password was updated, when the site last updated its certificates and what action LastPass recommends taking at this time.
"The site checker tool is accessible to anyone, and we encourage consumers to take advantage of it to determine next steps," Joe Siegrist, CEO AND Co-Founder of LastPass. "There is an influx of misinformation floating around regarding this recent breach. Our hope is that with both the site checker tool and the security check feature built into all LastPass accounts, we can help consumers determine what to do next."
