DUBLIN, IRELAND -- (Marketwired) -- 11/04/14 -- IRM SUMMIT -- ForgeRock Inc., the leading open platform provider of identity relationship management (IRM) solutions, today announced OpenUMA, an open source community initiative focused on addressing public concerns around privacy and consent in the digital age. The initiative marries the increasingly popular technical standard, User-Managed Access (UMA), which provides a blueprint for addressing digital consent and privacy, with ForgeRock's open source access management project, OpenAM. The project allows ForgeRock to foster a community that can collaborate on how to productize the popular standard so that enterprises and governments can easily bake privacy, consent, and secure personal data sharing into their digital strategies.

According to BI Intelligence, the Internet of Things will account for an exponential increase in the number of connections to devices: 1.9 billion today, and 9 billion by 2018. Verticals such as government, health care and the financial sector are making online privacy and consent a top priority. As the number of connected devices increases, managing the flow of interactions and data becomes more critical. Users need to be able to conveniently and securely control what applications and other parties can do with their data. Control of privacy must also extend to an individual's digital data, content, applications, and monetary transactions.
