Varonis Announces Release of API for DatAnywhere, Activating Developers for Secure Private Cloud File-Sharing Solution

NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 06/11/14 -- Varonis Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRNS), the leading provider of software solutions for unstructured, human-generated enterprise data, today announced the release of the DatAnywhere API (application programming interface) for Varonis DatAnywhere, its popular secure private cloud file-sharing solution. Varonis DatAnywhere instantly turns traditional file-sharing infrastructure into a private cloud, so that employees can access on-premise file shares via file synchronization and mobile devices. With the launch of DatAnywhere version 1.8 on June 4 and this breakthrough API, Varonis will enable the development of an ecosystem of integrated solutions around DatAnywhere.

Yaki Faitelson, Varonis CEO, President and co-founder, said, "We have received a lot of requests from members of the developer community to make our DatAnywhere API publicly available. We're very excited to make this a reality and to enable developers to add further use cases and amplify the already compelling value of DatAnywhere. Varonis is dedicated to innovation and enabling safe, secure file sharing that enhances productivity without changing the standard file sharing infrastructure that so many organizations already depend on."

Terri McClure, Senior Analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, said, "Our research indicates that a vast majority of companies have some types of data that are prohibited for one reason or another from being stored in the cloud. Yet these same companies need to support an increasingly mobile workforce. DatAnywhere provides companies with the ability to keep their files securely on their own internal servers, while also enabling their employees to securely access and share that data through mobile devices. This solves a considerable problem that many companies face when trying to implement a secure yet effective BYOD policy. The introduction of a DatAnywhere API will enable the creation of a file sharing solution ecosystem, leading to further innovation that can empower more secure collaboration within the BYOD environment of any company -- and with that company's partners and customers."

Varonis expects the release of the DatAnywhere API to enable faster development of DatAnywhere applications and clients for new and diverse platforms. Additionally, the API will facilitate faster integration with existing enterprise software solutions, along with the ability to more quickly build specialized features.

Use cases for the DatAnywhere API include:

  • The development of additional desktop clients, mobile clients or web interfaces.
  • Developers can leverage DatAnywhere's robust data routing platform to add secure file access to their own applications.
  • Customers will be able to integrate file shares with other enterprise applications and databases.

DatAnywhere layers BYOD capabilities on top of standard platforms, including file sync, mobile device access and third-party sharing. By utilizing existing file shares, DatAnywhere transforms terabytes of file share data into a private cloud file system without moving it or modifying it in any way, and typically deploys in about an hour. Data always resides on the organization's servers, existing access controls are enforced, and management and security capabilities inherent in the existing infrastructure remain in effect.

Varonis also has begun offering organizations the ability to download DatAnywhere for up to five users at no cost.
