BOSTON, MA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/10/14 -- Pioneering predictive analytics leader RapidMiner today announced that it was named the leader in KDnuggets' 15th annual Software Poll, which measures analytics and data mining software tool usage trends. More than 44 percent of respondents reported using RapidMiner's advanced analytics platform, up from 39 percent in 2013, and marking the second year in a row the company has ranked no. 1 in the survey.

"With the scope of this KDnuggets poll expanding to more than 3,200 voters -- a vast increase from last year's number -- it's even more significant to continue to see such unwavering enthusiasm and loyalty from the RapidMiner community and once again rank as the user favorite," said Ingo Mierswa, co-founder and CEO of RapidMiner. Other poll findings include:

• 35.1 percent of voters are relying exclusively on RapidMiner as their sole analytics tool, underscoring its robust feature set and capabilities. This is in contrast to other tools, many of which are being used in a supporting capacity, such as the R statistical programming language, which is being used exclusively by only 2.1 percent of voters.
• 17.5 percent of voters are using Hadoop and other big data tools, up from 14 percent in 2013 and 3 percent in 2011, showing a steady increase.
• Hadoop usage increased the most among voters outside the U.S., particularly in Asia where 31 percent of voters reported using it, up from 19 percent in 2013.
• 71 percent of voters used commercial software and 78 percent used free software. The U.S. is the only world region where more voters used only commercial tools rather than only free tools (at a 2-to-1 ratio.) In Europe, Asia, and Latin America, this ratio was reversed, with two to four times as many voters using only free tools versus only commercial tools.
