SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/08/14 -- Ubiquiti Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: UBNT), a next-generation communications technology company, is pleased to see that the FCC is recognizing the importance of the 5GHz spectrum with its move last week to add 100MHz to the band. A recent report by Telecom Advisory Services[1] estimates that unlicensed spectrum has added over 140 billion dollars to the US economy alone.
Ubiquiti has been one of the pioneers in leveraging and promoting the use of the 5GHz spectrum since 2006. Ubiquiti products using the 5GHz spectrum have been deployed around the world to enable connectivity in emerging markets, such as Eastern Europe and South America, and provide superior network coverage in challenging deployments with inclement weather conditions or interference-heavy areas. With over 20 million outdoor units sold, Ubiquiti is the largest supplier of broadband carrier class links employing the UNII frequency bands.
"It's heartening to see the FCC is investing in the growth of the 5GHz spectrum, which will be critical to increasing Internet connectivity for everyone who needs it," said John Sanford, CTO at Ubiquiti Networks. "We've invested a significant amount of time and resources researching the capabilities of 5GHz and look forward to developing more innovations that empower our customers."
