SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/28/14 -- Meru Networks® (NASDAQ: MERU), a leader in intelligent Wi-Fi networking, today announced that the Greater Poland (Wielkopolska) province in Poland has deployed a Meru Education-grade (MEG) solution to enable e-learning at more than 105 middle and secondary schools. Deployment at approximately 230 additional schools is currently underway.
The e-Szkola Moja Wielkopolska e-learning development program involves approximately 9,450 students and 1,050 teachers. The MEG solution has allowed the Greater Poland schools to take advantage of the latest in digital learning, while reducing the cost of network administration and eliminating problems with wireless connectivity.
"We chose Meru because it was easy to install and manage and delivered the high performance required to support e-learning at high density," said Joanna Ganowicz, director of the Department of Education in Wielkopolska. "With thousands of students at hundreds of schools, the network also has to be extremely reliable. Meru meets our needs for speed, ease and stability."
The e-Szkola Moja Wielkopolska program is a joint effort among the local governments of the Wielkopolska region, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan and the Nationwide Foundation for Computer Education. With fast, reliable wireless connectivity in the classrooms, teachers and students can use e-textbooks, participate in online lectures and collaborate on projects using tablets and notebooks. The program also allows students at the middle and secondary schools to participate in 32 separate online lectures in science and math conducted by Adam Mickiewicz University.
WLAN coverage design, deployment, integration and maintenance were provided by Advisor (www.advisor.pl), a Meru Gold Partner in Poznan, Poland.
The Meru MEG wireless solution was selected for its ability to support high-device density and for the ease of deployment and management enabled by the Meru MobileFLEX architecture. Since the Meru MEG wireless solution has been deployed, wireless connectivity problems in the schools have been eliminated and the cost of network administration has decreased sharply. Intensive testing by the schools showed that a single Meru access point could simultaneously stream high-definition video to more than 40 mobile devices.
More than one thousand Meru AP1010 enterprise access points and more than one hundred MC1500 controllers have been deployed in the Wielkopolska schools. Meru E(z)RF Network Manager is used centrally to monitor and manage the wireless LANs.
The MEG solution is designed to solve educational institutions' BYOD issues and support their learning-essential applications. MEG starts with three simple steps:
1. On-board quickly with BYOD provisioning and secure wireless access mapped to IT policies.
2. Connect all BYOD devices reliably anywhere on campus.
3. Learn by deploying validated learning and teaching applications on BYOD devices over the MEG wireless solution.
"Students around the world expect their schools to provide the highest quality mobile connectivity," said Annika Broberg, area sales director for Northern Europe at Meru. "The MEG solution is designed to give them uninterrupted access to eLearning and helps ensure their success in a knowledge-based economy."
