NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 05/01/14 -- Pertino, a company reinventing networking for the cloud era, today announced that co-founder and CTO Scott Hankins will participate in a "Network Service Virtualization (NSV)" panel session at the Open Networking User Group (ONUG) Conference. The panel, moderated by Nick Lippis, ONUG co-founder and co-chairman, will discuss how the traditional hardware-based network services will transition into the new software-defined enterprise network paradigm.
Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) has emerged as a critical factor in modern, software-defined datacenters and provides a framework for virtualizing centralized network appliances -- like firewalls, application delivery controllers, and session border controllers -- and orchestrating the flow of traffic through them. With NFV, each network functions are more centralized and traffic is diverted over the network to run through them.
Network Service Virtualization (NSV) is the enterprise version of NFV. It differs from NFV in that it seeks to virtualize and distribute network services by creating an instance of the service for each user or application. Unlike NFV, NSV provides process-level orchestration of multiple service functions and instantiates them on a virtual network close to where the traffic is naturally flowing.
"Pertino is one of the first companies to combine SDN and NSV technologies to create a 100 percent cloud-based network service that radically alters current networking conventions and economics," said Scott Hankins, Pertino co-founder and CTO. "NSV makes it possible for customers to deploy network services for a particular user with just a few clicks, and then have those services follow that user everywhere they go and on whatever device they use."
The ONUG is a user-driven community geared towards IT executives, along with financial and industry analysts, and focuses on expediting the delivery of open networking solutions. As part of the "Network Service Virtualization" panel session at ONUG, Hankins will discuss Pertino's approach to NSV and the opportunity and challenges associated with virtualizing traditional network functions and delivering them as cloud network services. The panel is moderated by Nick Lippis, co-founder and vice chairman of ONUG, and other panelists include: Vincent Patrizio, ADP; Truman Boyes, Bloomberg; Siva Mandalam, F5 Networks.

About Pertino
Founded in 2011, Pertino has an inspired vision for reinventing networking for the cloud era, and in the process, being a catalyst for democratizing IT for small-to-medium businesses. Globalization, cloud-enabled IT, and growing demand for always-connected people, devices, and things is affecting businesses of all sizes -- making the "outside network" as critical as the inside one. However, traditional wide-area networks have not kept pace. Pertino's revolutionary Cloud Network Engine enables an IT person, regardless of skill level, to build a secure and reliable cloud network in minutes that connects people everywhere to IT resources anywhere. To achieve this breakthrough, Pertino has developed a software-driven cloud platform that combines the power and pervasiveness of the cloud with network virtualization and Software-defined Network (SDN) technology. The company is venture funded and headquartered in Los Gatos, Calif. For more information or to try Pertino free for yourself, please visit pertino.com.
