AJAX, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 09/04/13 -- After August sales of 5,804 new cars and light trucks, Volkswagen Canada is pleased to report its 20th consecutive month of record results. This surpassed the previous mark of 5,782 set just last year. Year-to-date sales of 42,248 are 7% over last year (39,451).

"Our dealers have worked very hard to provide their customers with a satisfying experience," stated Maria Stenstrom, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group Canada. "By combining great products with excellent pricing, we are finding new customers each and every month."

Sales of the Jetta continue to increase. Last month, a total of 2,708 were sold. With the first of the 2014 model year cars now arriving, anticipation is building around the introduction of the newest engine option. A 1.8L, turbocharged direct-injected powerplant joins a lineup that already includes the award-winning TDI Clean Diesel, and Turbocharged Hybrid variants.

Lighter, more powerful and up to 16% more fuel-efficient than the 2.5L engine it replaces, this engine is the epitome of Volkswagen's plan of "intelligent downsizing", delivering outstanding fuel efficiency without sacrificing drivability, interior space or cargo capacity.
