NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 08/21/13 -- Marketing Release: Vodafone recently released a research paper, titled The state of M2M in transport and logistics, that discusses the adoption of machine-to-machine communications in the transport and logistics sector.
The report outlines key findings from Vodafone's main research paper The M2M adoption barometer 2013 that discusses the global adoption of machine-to-machine (M2M) communications for operational efficiency, amongst other advantages.
Fleet management solutions and mobile asset tracking are the most obvious machine-to-machine applications in transport and logistics. These solutions have a direct, immediate and easily measurable effect on the efficiency of core business processes. Of the 12% of transport and logistics firms surveyed that already use M2M, all said they'd seen some return on their investment -- and 67% said that return was "significant".
In the transport and logistics sector, M2M can help avoid delays, loss and theft during shipping, raise vehicle and driver utilisation, cuts fuel costs, and support sustainability efforts by keeping planners, managers and drivers continually informed about the location and status of stock and vehicles. This ultimately improves the speed, quality and accuracy of getting consignments to customers.
Vodafone's main research paper, The M2M adoption barometer 2013, confirms the broad industry and global coverage of M2M technology and how the effects are transforming large and small scale businesses. According to the research, 78% of respondents see M2M adoption as crucial to business success and those that are in the process of implementing M2M, consider it a key priority -- 50% of organisations will have adopted M2M by 2015.
