OSHAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 07/04/12 -- The Chevrolet Sonic continues its strong performance with its second straight record-breaking sales month, leading Chevrolet small cars' 50 per cent sales increase for the calendar year. Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac dealers reported 22,869 deliveries in June 2012.
Buick, Canada's fastest growing luxury brand, continues its strong sales performance with its second consecutive month of double-digit year-over-year increases. Sales of the all new Verano are driving Buick's growth as customers embrace Buick's first entry into the small luxury segment.
"Growth in the Canadian industry thus far in 2012 has been driven largely by increases in fleet/rental sales. At GM Canada, we continue with a disciplined approach focusing on newly launched products in the retail market," said Marc Comeau, vice-president of sales, service and marketing at GM of Canada. "While our total volume in the month of June was down, our retail focus is gaining traction with the double-digit calendar-year-to-date results for Buick and Chevrolet small cars."
Comeau added, "We have aggressive 2013 model year plans where we will launch all-new or significantly freshened cars and crossovers in segments representing more than 60 per cent of the retail light vehicle industry. These plans start this summer with the all new Chevrolet Spark and Malibu joining the Chevrolet family and redefining the mini and midsize car segments."
