WebRTC (Web Realtime Communications) enables peer to peer video, audio, and data communication between two web browsers. This allows for video calling, video chat, and peer to peer file sharing entirely in the web browser, with no plugins required..

Since Nudg's WebRTC requires no plugins, frameworks or applications, all you need is a WebRTC compatible browser. What this means is that to an end user, WebRTC applications "just work" without having to download any plugins or software - No Flash, no Silverlight, no JavaScript API. So, one can communicate pure video, audio, and data communication on the Nudg web app without any hassle.

WebRTC is entirely peer to peer, and so you don't have to pay for any of the bandwidth across the wire. Additionally, because WebRTC is entirely browser to browser, you get the highest performance and lowest latency possible. One example to consider is when a user is trying to share a file. Without WebRTC, the user has to upload/send the file to a server, and the recipient user has to then download that file. But with WebRTC, these files are transferred directly through the WebRTC Data Channel, and no servers or infrastructure are required. This is a very positive advancement for the user experience.

Peer to Peer

WebRTC works by connecting two browsers through the RTCPeerConnection. First, the browsers are connected through 'signaling', bypassing the Session Description Protocol (SDP). This signaling discovers where the two users are and how to connect them. Once the RTC Peer Connection is open, the video, audio, and data communication can be sent between the two browsers directly.

The new app release also includes important enrichments to the User Experience including enhanced voice & video calling, video email, chat with inline sharing to other users, enhanced friend requests, and a cleaner experience; as well as a more intuitive User Interface. Users can also now segment their close friends, friends, colleagues, acquaintances and family members to control 'who sees what' content.
