AJAX, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 06/02/15 -- May sales at Volkswagen Canada once again proved to be record-setting. A total of 7,367 new cars and light trucks were sold by the company, which was a 14% improvement over the same month last year (6,465). Year-to-date, sales of 30,520 are 25% ahead of the previous year (24,390).

"We continue to introduce new products to the market," stated Maria Stenstrom, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group Canada. "The arrival of the Golf Sportwagon has given consumers another option in the Golf family."

The hatchback Golf, GTI and Sportwagon accounted for 2,021 sales during the month, 360% more than the 562 sold in May of 2014. Offering a choice of 2 or 4 doors, and either a hatchback or wagon bodystyle, the Golf has long been a favourite among Canadian consumers. In its 40+ year history, the car has sold over 30,000,000 copies, and continues to set the standard in the class.
