SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/17/14 -- Mesosphere, creators of software solutions for managing datacenter and cloud resources at web-scale, today announced the acquisition of OrlyAtomics, the large-scale distributed database company spun out of the social discovery leader, Tagged, which has more than 330 million global users. The addition of Orly's expertise to Mesosphere will secure Mesosphere's position as the leader in delivering a datacenter operating system at massive scale.

The acquisition marks another major milestone in San Francisco-based Mesosphere's roadmap as the first startup to build an operating system for distributed compute environments. Mesosphere's operating system is being built on top of Apache Mesos, the distributed systems kernel that abstracts CPU, memory, storage and other compute resources away from servers and cloud instances. Mesos powers Twitter's entire infrastructure, and in August at the MesosCon event leading technology brands like Airbnb, Ebay, OpenTable, Netflix and others spoke about powerful new abstractions the technology is enabling at their organizations.

In June, Mesosphere closed $10.5M in series A funding led by Andreessen Horowitz, with additional investors Data Collective and Fuel Capital. In August, the company launched Mesosphere for Google Cloud Platform -- bringing the power of Mesos and Google Kubernetes to the cloud, and making it easy for customers to run applications and containers at scale. Earlier this month, Mesosphere announced that leading Stanford cloud systems researcher Christos Kozyrakis had joined the team.
