SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 12/10/13 -- SpiderOak, the 'Zero-Knowledge' privacy cloud technologies provider, today announces significant revenue growth in 2013, driving a larger team, an expanded product line, a new privacy-first framework in Crypton, and new offices in San Francisco and Kansas City. As SpiderOak continues to grow, the company is emerging as a noted leader in the privacy community.
"Our time is now," said SpiderOak CEO Ethan Oberman. "We made a decision seven years ago to place privacy at the center of our technology and stayed true to this conviction. Our concept of 'Zero-Knowledge' is becoming widely used to promote privacy-first application development and design. With our newest open source application framework called Crypton, we are able to push privacy further into the web. And we are overjoyed to be able to play an active role in the community by raising awareness and education through our Zero-Knowledge Privacy Foundation. All in all, it has been an amazing year."
SpiderOak achieved year-over-year enterprise revenue growth of more than 300% in the third quarter of 2013, with significant momentum in the technology, telecom and government sectors. To support that growth, SpiderOak doubled its headcount, and opened new offices in Kansas City and San Francisco, the latter its headquarters.
Innovations in commercial and non-profit tools continue to bolster SpiderOak's leadership. Crypton, the first-ever Zero Knowledge application framework, will revolutionize Internet privacy by providing JavaScript-enabled cryptography in the browser. As the Web becomes the new developer platform, Crypton enables developers to build 'Zero-Knowledge' privacy-first applications that don't require the bulkiness of a downloaded application or the intensity of cryptographic knowledge.
The new Zero-Knowledge Privacy Foundation -- http://zeroknowledgeprivacy.org -- leverages a worldwide community and innovative technology and resources. The Foundation provides support and advice for those developing privacy-oriented apps and products. It also works with like-minded companies and advocacy groups on public policy and emerging legislation.
In recognition of SpiderOak's ongoing efforts in the privacy space, the Privacy Commissioner of Ontario, Canada recently designated SpiderOak and its CEO Ethan Oberman as 'Privacy by Design' ambassadors. SpiderOak will continue this work with community events, hack-a-thons, and thought-leadership un-conferences with leaders including Radio Free Asia, Silent Circle and disconnect.me.
