COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/21/12 -- In conjunction with the 84th IETF meeting in Vancouver, BC, the Internet Protocol for Smart Objects (IPSO) Alliance successfully completed their latest interoperability event. Building upon previous interoperability tests, this latest event demonstrated Internet of Things interoperability using the latest IPv6 and Web standards for machine-to-machine (M2M) devices and cloud services in connected home, building automation, lighting, and smart energy-related applications. "The future Internet of Things will consist of interconnected smart objects from different vendors that are capable of exchanging valuable data. It is being built one interoperability event at a time," stated Robert Assimiti of Nivis, co-chair of the IPSO Interop Committee. "We added another brick to the IoT foundation during the IPSO interoperability event that took place in Vancouver. The event showcased Web-enabled smart objects from multiple vendors exchanging application payloads in an interoperable manner based on the IPSO Application Template."
The IPSO Application Template has been extended to cover this wider range of use cases and to more precisely describe the parameters of smart objects involved in this new event. This template enabled participants to interact seamlessly between devices located in Canada, Finland, France, Sweden and the U.S. through a cloud-hosted application. The IPSO Application Template was forged within the IPSO Interop Committee, which continues to focus on smart object interoperability including other important facets such as management, security and discovery capabilities.

The IPSO Application Template enabled our members to quickly integrate and demonstrate real end-to-end interoperability between M2M devices and cloud services," said Zach Shelby, Sensinode co-founder and co-chair of the IPSO Interop Committee.
Eight IPSO Member companies participated in the interop, including ElectroTest Sweden AB, Ericsson, Nivis, Nokia, Proto6, Sensinode, Sensus, and Watteco. "We are very happy to be able to demonstrate that the Internet of Things and their dedicated protocols are now mature enough to run a common application over devices from multiple vendors and from various locations around the world. Leveraging open standards that are based on IP will definitely help build these interactions," shared Cédric Chauvenet of Watteco.
Following the interoperability event, IPSO sponsored the Bits-N-Bites Open House, demonstrating NXP's smart light bulb, Proto6's motion detector, and Ericsson/Sensinode in-home sensors.
