SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/27/12 -- VMWORLD 2012 -- Nexsan®, a leading independent provider of data storage systems, today announced a partnership with Cumulus Systems, a leading supplier of virtual and physical infrastructure optimization solutions, to provide a free, seven-day assessment of the performance of their VMware environments. As virtual environments and the data associated with them continue to grow, this assessment allows organizations to understand what configuration changes are needed to allow their environments to run more efficiently. The free assessment offer is available through December, 2012. More information is available at www.nexsan.com/MARS.
Deploying VMware provides significant savings and increased utilization of hardware assets through consolidation. However it also creates significant challenges in sizing the servers and storage correctly according to application performance needs. Cumulus Systems' MARS product granularly measures performance over a period of time for an entire virtual environment from the server through the storage, analyzes the data and recommends solutions. Nexsan delivers the optimal balance in performance and cost for VMware environments with its NST line of Unified Hybrid storage solutions. Using MARS and NST, customers can feel confident they are deploying highly-reliable and cost-effective VMware infrastructure.
Nexsan NST systems deliver up to 54,000 IOPS for as low as $.65/GB, are expandable to over 1PB of capacity, and are qualified for both VMware vSphere 4 and vSphere 5. Nexsan Unified Hybrid Storage systems use a combination of memory technologies to implement a large cache with strong performance for both reads and writes cost effectively. The NST Hybrid caching intelligently optimizes performance by utilizing DRAM, NVRAM, and flash-based SSD as a single pool resulting in excellent price/performance ratios. The caching layer is used in conjunction with spinning media to deliver the memory based speeds with the price and capacity of spinning disk. The systems deliver unified high performance block and file interfaces, sending both types of traffic through the NST5000 controllers.
MARS collects granular data from virtual machines, servers, storage and the network at the minute level. The product is uniquely designed to capture the data at this granular level over long periods of time in an efficient manner requiring minimal storage space. This data is then analyzed to ensure compliance with VMware best practices, highlight exceptions and recommend solutions for efficiency and performance improvements. Additional reports are created on demand showing the configuration and performance metrics on each of the components to allow administrators to define bottlenecks and put a plan in place to remedy them.

"Understanding your environment in order to maximize performance in the most economical way is a hallmark of Nexsan," said Victoria Grey, senior vice president of marketing, Nexsan. "Combining a tool such as Cumulus MARS to analyze your infrastructure with highly cost-effective NST storage ensures the performance, capacity and density to meet the needs of the most demanding VMware environments."
