OSHAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/04/12 -- Despite a decrease in year-over-year sales, GM posted gains in the highly-contested compact and crossover markets popular with Canadians. Combined sales of compact cars were up 3% per cent, led by the Chevrolet Cruze and Buick Verano. Sales of GM's combined compact MPV (Chevrolet Orlando) and crossover (Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain) were also up 4.4 per cent for the month, led by the Terrain. Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac dealers reported 21,070 deliveries in August 2012.

Total GM sales were down 15.9 per cent compared to last August.
