COLUMBIA, MD -- (Marketwire) -- 09/10/12 -- Sourcefire, Inc. (NASDAQ: FIRE), a leader in intelligent cybersecurity solutions, today announced that its FirePOWER appliances, Next-Generation Intrusion Prevention Systems (NGIPS), Virtual NGIPS and Defense Center have achieved Common Criteria certification, verifying the products' ability to address the stringent security requirements of the federal government.
This internationally recognized standard for network security highlights Sourcefire's ability to satisfy the security requirements of top government and commercial organizations around the world, including the United States, Australia, Canada, Germany and United Kingdom, as well as 21 other countries.
In achieving Common Criteria certification, the Sourcefire solutions were proven to provide advanced threat protection in the face of growing and evolving security challenges and extend protection beyond physical infrastructure to include virtual environments. Specific models tested are listed here and include: the Sourcefire 3D Sensor licensed for IPS, Defense Center, Virtual Defense Center and Virtual 3D Sensor licensed for IPS.
"These Sourcefire offerings underwent intensive testing to attain this certification," said Tom McDonough, President and COO at Sourcefire. "We recognize the importance of meeting strict global security standards while continuing to innovate to provide solutions that afford our customers an advantage in an era of heightened attacks conducted by increasingly sophisticated hackers."
The testing was conducted by CygnaCom Solutions' Common Criteria Security Evaluation Laboratory (SEL), an accredited National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Common Criteria Testing Laboratory (CCTL) authorized to conduct product evaluations according to the Common Criteria (CC) (ISO/IEC 15408) and the Common Evaluation Methodology (CEM) under the U.S. scheme.
The Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS) was established by NIAP, a joint venture between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Security Agency (NSA). The program was established to evaluate conformance of Information Technology (IT) products to the international standards. The standard is referred to as the 'Common Criteria' (ISO/IEC 15408). CCEVS is the U.S. national program for the evaluation of information technology products for conformance to the International Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation. NIAP validated products will be recognized in 25 other countries participating with the United States in the Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement.
