SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/10/12 -- Leap Motion, the motion-control software and hardware company that will change the way people interact with machines, announced that Peter Lurie will be senior vice president of business development and the company's general counsel. Lurie, co-founder of Virgin Mobile and a senior vice president at American Express, will be responsible for developing strategic partnerships and managing legal and business affairs for Leap Motion, which is set to release its first product in early 2013.
"Peter's extensive experience negotiating, structuring and building key partnerships makes him an ideal addition to the world-class team we're assembling," said Leap Motion co-founder and CEO Michael Buckwald. "His business and legal skills will be invaluable as we continue to forge relationships with manufacturers and software providers to bring the power of three-dimensional motion-control technology from the realm of science fiction into everyday ubiquity."
Lurie has been senior vice president for strategic partnerships and business development with American Express' Enterprise Growth Group, responsible for online and mobile commerce partnerships and related investments. Previously, he co-founded Virgin Mobile USA, the innovative pay-as-you-go wireless company, which he helped guide from the start-up phase, through its national launch and rapid growth, an initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange, the strategic acquisition of another mobile services company, and ultimately the merger with Sprint. He then served as senior vice president of Sprint's Prepaid Group, handling legal and business affairs for a portfolio of brands.
Lurie serves as a board director and former co-chair of Urban Arts Partnership, which integrates arts programming into underserved public schools to advance students' intellectual and social development. He holds a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College and a law degree from the University of Chicago.
"Leap's transformative and versatile new technology will change the way we interact with a countless array of devices," said Lurie. "I'm excited to launch Leap globally by developing long-term strategic partnerships with innovative companies."
Since its announcement in May 2012, the Leap has captured the interest of consumers, developers, potential partners and media around the globe. Accurate to 1/100th of a millimeter, the Leap costs just $70 and can be pre-ordered at www.leapmotion.com for shipment in early 2013.
