MONTREAL -- (Marketwire) -- 04/04/12 -- LULU SOFTWARE today announced that its flagship Soda® PDF application is the first PDF creation and editing solution with native support for .WWF, a document format supported by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Germany. A cornerstone of the conservation organization's "Think Before You Print" campaign, the .WWF format creates documents that feature all the benefits of the PDF standard, with an earth-friendly twist: it eliminates the unnecessary or wasteful printing of documents by ensuring the file cannot be printed.
To date, more than 53,000 companies and individuals have adopted the .WWF format. Soda PDF users can easily save their documents in the .WWF format, which shows up as an option in the "Save As" menu. Documents saved in this format cannot be printed. Previously, users had to download separate .WWF-conversion software to change individual documents to the "green" format.
Despite the ongoing evolution to a "paper-free" world that increasingly relies on electronic documents, paper consumption continues to have serious ecological effects. Through campaigns that promote behavior change -- such as email signatures that ask readers not to print the message, and suggestions for workplaces to reduce their paper consumption -- the WWF Germany has worked to create awareness of the often casual use of paper by individuals and organizations. In 2010, the organization used technology to extend their message of paper conservation through the .WWF format's introduction.
"We are pleased to bring the .WWF format, and its message of environmental respect, to a broader audience by making it easier to create and share documents that cannot be printed," said Eric Gareau, chief executive officer, LULU SOFTWARE. "We listened to our users who wanted native support for the .WWF format, both to raise awareness and to do their part to save paper. We are very proud that Soda PDF is the first document-creation tool to include the capability to save as .WWF."
More information on the .WWF format can be found at http://www.saveaswwf.com/en/.
The .WWF format capabilities are available immediately in the 2012 versions of Soda PDF Standard, Soda PDF Professional and Soda PDF Pro + OCR, each of which can be purchased and downloaded at http://sodapdf.com/trial/download.aspx.
