MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 04/11/12 -- Gridstore, the leader in scale-out NAS storage solutions, today announced that Storage Switzerland has identified Gridstore as an affordable fault tolerant storage solution that can stand up to almost any failure. In a recent Storage Switzerland article and lab-based "stress test," the leading analyst firm underscores the value and performance of Gridstore's grid-based NAS offering.
In the article, "Fault Tolerant vs. Highly Available Storage," lead analyst George Crump states, "Grid-based storage, like that offered by Gridstore, can leverage its architecture to provide fault tolerance without the cost that's traditionally associated with this technology. The ability to provide consistent performance and improved uptime makes grid-based storage a valuable new solution to some common storage problems."
Storage Switzerland points out that there is a misconception in the storage industry that highly available storage is the same as fault tolerant storage. The research group identifies that in reality, fault tolerance can bring specific advantages to storage systems that high availability cannot. For example, unlike high availability, fault tolerant storage can instantly and automatically take over the services of a failed component and there is no disruption of storage services. Adding to the attraction of fault tolerant storage, it is now affordable for environments of all sizes.
The Gridstore scale-out architecture seamlessly distributes virtualized storage controllers to every client that accesses the storage pool and allows the user to incrementally grow their storage pool capacity one storage block at a time with no disruption of service. Gridstore also eliminates network bottlenecks by using parallel IO to uniformly spread the data across many storage nodes, giving more bandwidth to the storage system.
"The Gridstore NAS has earned its spot in the lab for reliability," said Crump in his testing report. "We have no doubt given our stringent testing that the Gridstore NAS can stand up to almost any failure that you can throw at it."
"We are honored that after all of the extensive testing Storage Switzerland has done to Gridstore 2.0 that they would highlight our product as the solution for fault tolerant storage," said Kelly Murphy, CEO, Gridstore. "Gridstore has aimed to provide affordable, scale-out NAS storage that simplifies management while increasing performance, scaling and reliability."
