BARCELONA, SPAIN -- (Marketwire) -- 10/16/12 -- (Citrix Synergy) -- Atlantis Computing, the leader in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) storage and performance optimization solutions, today announced the release of the Citrix XenDesktop® and Microsoft Hyper-V Reference Architecture with Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI storage optimization software that was designed and tested in partnership with GlassHouse Technologies. The joint reference architecture simplifies Citrix XenDesktop deployments, improves the user experience and cuts the CAPEX cost per desktop to $195 per desktop by using only local server RAM as primary storage for virtual desktops.
"Typically VDI deployments force customers to compromise on either the cost per desktop or the user experience, an archaic choice for something that is supposed to be a technological step forward," said Jay Seaton, CMO, GlassHouse. "When we design VDI reference architectures, the goal with our clients is to balance the cost per desktop, improve the user experience and reduce the operational overhead to maintain and scale the VDI infrastructure. This stateless reference architecture drives down the cost per desktop by eliminating storage and the I/O performance using local server RAM results in a better-than-physical-user experience, and enables deployments that scale using only servers and software."
Reference Architecture Highlights:
"As customers begin their desktop transformation, storage is often the key challenge to overcome to achieve successful deployments both from a cost and user experience perspective," said Rana Kanaan, vice president, product management, Desktops and Apps, Citrix. "The ability to use RAM as storage for virtual desktops with Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI is truly innovative. This reference architecture provides a blueprint showing customers how they can take advantage of this great technology to lower their cost per desktop, simplify their deployment and deliver an outstanding user experience."
Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI is the only storage optimization software that eliminates storage from Citrix XenDesktop stateless VDI deployments. Citrix XenDesktop can now be deployed to thousands of users in a matter of a few hours without the cost, complexity and risks of installing and managing storage. Atlantis ILIO delivers a user experience that is much faster than a physical PC at a cost of $195 per desktop.
"Removing storage from VDI dramatically simplifies the entire deployment, eliminates project risks, and makes VDI easier to manage at scale," said Bernard Harguindeguy, president and CEO, Atlantis Computing. "The combination of Citrix XenDesktop and Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI enables the deployment of thousands of desktops in a matter of a few hours. It is invaluable to IT teams looking to deploy virtual desktops quickly and successfully."
GlassHouse used the vendor independent benchmarking tool Login Virtual Session Indexer (Login VSI) to objectively test the reference architecture scalability and performance. Both leading IT-analysts and IT-vendors recognize and recommend Login VSI as the de-facto industry standard benchmarking tool for SBC and VDI. Atlantis Computing has recently been awarded the 'Tested with Login VSI' award in recognition for their proven commitment towards testing and securing the optimal performance, scalability and reliability of their Atlantis ILIO VDI storage and performance optimization software.

About Atlantis Computing
Atlantis Computing is transforming enterprise desktop computing by solving the challenges of virtual desktop deployments: storage costs, performance and deployment risks. The Atlantis ILIO software complements VDI solutions to cut VDI costs and deliver a desktop that is faster and cheaper than a PC. With Atlantis ILIO, IT organizations can deploy 4-7 times more desktops on the same storage footprint, making VDI more affordable by both cutting the amount of storage needed per desktop and enabling the use of less expensive storage options. Atlantis Computing is privately held and funded by El Dorado Ventures, Partech International and Cisco Systems with headquarters in Mountain View, California, and offices in London, England.
