SEATTLE, WA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/22/12 -- Attachmate Corporation today announced the availability of Attachmate® Reflection® 2011 R3, a family of terminal emulation and PC X server software that securely connects desktop and mobile users to mission-critical business applications. Compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 8 Certified, Attachmate's new terminal emulator software connects users to enterprise applications running on IBM mainframes (including the new IBM zEnterprise EC12), IBM AS/400's (IBM System i), UNIX/Linux servers and HP NonStop.
"With the impending launch of Windows 8 and excitement surrounding the new operating system, it's important to support customers regardless of their operating system choice in this evolving landscape," said Tom Bice, vice president of marketing and product management at Attachmate. "As the leader in the market, our customers expect Attachmate to assist them with reliable access to critical business information while adopting new technologies like Windows 7, yet also looking forward to the next version of Windows, whether on a PC or mobile device."
In addition to assisting customers in easing migration pains, Reflection 2011 R3 provides organizations with an opportunity to leverage the latest productivity and security enhancements whether they are upgrading from previous Attachmate versions or replacing other solutions in an effort to standardize.
"We're excited to be able to provide our users with a modern user experience as we make our move to Windows 7," said Catherine Casacchia, vice president of IT at Northern Trust. "With advanced productivity features, like tabs for managing multiple host sessions, a Ribbon interface for a consistent user experience with other Windows 7 applications, and a .NET API for creating rich, secure applications that enable Windows and host applications to exchange information, we expect a significant aggregate increase in overall end-user productivity."
Many companies, like Northern Trust, are continuing with their move to Windows 7, even with the Windows 8 launch coming later this month. In fact, Windows 7 migration activity is peaking, largely due to the looming end of support for Windows XP.
According to Gartner in a recent report, "Is Windows 8 in Your Future?," analysts recommend that with the launch of a new operating system right around the corner, organizations will need to consider either continuing with planned adoptions of existing operating systems or move to the newest version. This means that software providers will need to support enterprises' migration plans, regardless of operating system.
New enhancements and key features include:
"Attachmate recognizes that migrations are some of the most complex and expensive IT projects an organization will undertake," said Kris Lall, product marketing manager at Attachmate. "As a result, Attachmate focuses its innovation on features that enable smooth transitions for end-users and fully customized deployment for IT. Legacy systems and applications remain vital, but modifying them to leverage modern security and productivity tools, Web technologies, and mobile devices is not realistic given the costs and complexities. Attachmate's strategy focuses on embracing new technologies without touching the back-end systems."
