BOISE, ID -- (Marketwire) -- 10/23/12 -- HP (NYSE: HPQ) today was awarded a multiyear contract with the State of Idaho Department of Education to provide students a mobile computing environment that will foster digital learning in and out of the classroom.
In support of Idaho's "Students Come First" initiative, aimed at ensuring that every child in the state will be provided access to the best educational opportunities possible, HP has designed an extensive program of technology and solutions that will make one-on-one computing a reality for thousands of students.
HP will manage all aspects of the initiative from consulting to implementing the wireless network, including deploying computing assets, monitoring and maintenance, and providing professional development of teachers and staff. HP Probook Notebooks and HP services are cornerstones of the state's integrated and comprehensive approach to the solution.
"We have a responsibility to prepare our students for continuing their education and competing in the global economy. That means having the highest-quality instruction and the most effective teachers," said C.L. "Butch" Otter, governor of Idaho. "This landmark agreement with HP opens up new possibilities in and beyond the classroom, freeing students to engage directly with the tools they need to forge a path to a successful future."
The Idaho State Department of Education chose to take on the initiative to address a major cultural shift in the way students want to learn -- with immediate and unhindered access to information.
"The State of Idaho understands that technology-empowered students can develop skills that will last a lifetime," said John Solomon, senior vice president and managing director, Printing and Personal Systems -- Americas, HP. "As the Idaho Department of Education's first partner to deliver mobile learning, HP is committed to working in the community and providing educators the highest level of solutions and services possible to help their students succeed."
HP will collaborate with technology organizations to implement specific areas of the solution, including locally based Xtreme Consulting Group and Black Box, leading education-focused wired and wireless connectivity and communications provider Education Networks of America (ENA) and Idaho Digital Learning Academy (IDLA).
