COLUMBIA, MD -- (Marketwire) -- 11/19/12 -- Sourcefire, Inc. (NASDAQ: FIRE), a leader in intelligent cybersecurity solutions, today announced that Cornerstone Mortgage Company has deployed Sourcefire Next-Generation Intrusion Prevention System (NGIPS) to replace its first-generation IPS and to support network expansion. Sourcefire was selected for its contextual awareness and full-stack visibility, industry-leading threat protection and performance, and third-party integration, all of which are core to the company's vision for Agile Security.
"Given our business and growth, it is critical that we stay ahead of the changing nature of attacks, regulatory requirements, and our expanding IT environment. To do this we needed more than a 'black box,'" said William Gemza, CISSP, Director of Information Technology at Cornerstone. "After a head-to-head evaluation with other IPS solutions, we selected Sourcefire because it meets all of our criteria for performance and protection, providing intelligence about hosts, devices, and traffic -- including encrypted traffic. Also, the ability to adapt protection to our unique environment and to scale as our needs change made the NGIPS offering a natural fit."
Cornerstone is using the Sourcefire NGIPS with FireSIGHT contextual awareness and automation to gain real-time network visibility and automatically assess the impact of security events to focus resources on those that are relevant and critical. As part of the deployment, the Sourcefire 8140 FirePOWER appliance provides market-leading performance to support Cornerstone's increasingly demanding environment. Due to the growing use by attackers of secure channels to penetrate networks, the mortgage lender also selected Sourcefire's SSL appliances to decrypt and inspect SSL traffic.
The Sourcefire NGIPS enables Cornerstone to adapt protection as threats, policies and vulnerabilities change. The solution is distinguished by the ability to create new rules, modify existing ones and leverage third-party rules. Sourcefire's open architecture streamlines integration with complementary technologies to further address the firm's evolving security requirements.
"In today's dynamic environment maintaining network security requires information superiority," said CP Morey, senior director of product marketing, Sourcefire. "By providing Cornerstone with the ability to 'see it' and then 'control it' we enable them to tip the scales of information superiority in their favor and stay a step ahead of attackers."
