SANTA MONICA, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/04/12 -- younity, a personal cloud service, announced its public beta launch of its mobile application today. younity allows iPhone and iPad users to access all files, music, videos and photos across all laptops and desktops, with no plug-in required. As a result, users have a single file system across all different devices, providing access to files no matter where they are stored, without costly storage fees, without storage limitations and without browsing devices individually.
"younity seeks to revolutionize the relationship between people, data and devices. Our vision is to create a way for all your devices to work as if they are a single device," said Erik Caso, CEO at Entangled Media. "With an average of more than three Internet-enabled devices per person, users generally don't want to be forced to use one device or another, they just care about accessing the files. Let's say you have a PC at the office and a Mac at home, younity allows you to seamlessly access any file you want on-the-go, including music, photos, videos and word documents, via your iPhone, iPad or iPod."
It's estimated that people have roughly 1TB of files per person across all computers and mobile devices. That number is forecast to grow to over 2.2TB per household by 2013. People are adding more devices every year and with camera resolution increasing, photos and videos are taking up more space. It is nearly impossible to put huge volumes of data in cloud storage, but with younity's personal cloud, users are not limited to the amount of storage on their mobile device.
"One of the first things our users told us was that this killed the need for them to sync. We learned that people don't sync their devices -- they never remember to," adds Caso. "Our users were elated to have the ability to get the benefits of syncing without ever having to plan ahead or plug-in their phone or tablet."
How younity works:
Download younity to all your PC or Mac computers via the website, and install the younity app from the App Store on any iPhone, iPod or iPad. After putting in your username and password, you will have instant access to all of your files across all of your Internet-connected devices.
younity creates a personal, private cloud for of all your files across all your devices by turning them into a group of personal cloud servers. User information is private, files are never stored online, made available on the Web or to other people; younity does not access user data or track file names.
In addition, younity enables the following:
younity is free to use and available today for Mac OS X, Windows computers and all iOS devices including iPhone, iPad and iPod. Linux and Android versions are coming soon.
Richard Harrison, an early younity user says, "I like younity because I never have to think about syncing my phone. For instance, if I put pictures from my camera on my desktop or laptop computer, I instantly have them on my phone. I have a few computers and iTunes only syncs to one of them. With younity, it doesn't matter that I have files, music or photos spread across multiple devices, I can access them all."
"We're excited about our beta launch today, but what we've really built is a platform. This is just the beginning," says Caso.
