The Storage Network Industry Association's Solid State Storage Initiative (SSSI), an effort formed to foster the growth and success of the market for solid state storage in both enterprise and client environments, will showcase new technical and educational work at the Storage Visions 2013 Conference (www.storagevisions.com), booth #6, January 6-7, 2013, in Las Vegas, NV.
"The year 2012 represented a milestone in the growth of Solid State storage products and of the SSSI, which launched three major activities -- the PCIe SSD Committee, the Workload I/O Capture Program, and the NVM Programming Technical Work Group," said Paul Wassenberg, SSSI Chair from Marvell Semiconductor. "SSSI will showcase these activities at Storage Visions 2013."
In recognition of the fast growing market for PCIe SSD products, the SSSI launched the PCIe SSD Committee to provide training and guidance to the industry on PCIe SSDs. As part of that effort, the SSSI booth will feature a live demonstration by Fusion-io and a display of PCIe drives from SSSI members BitMicro, Fusion-io, IDT, Marvell, Micron, STEC, and Virident.
SSSI will also demonstrate the Workload I/O Capture Program (WIOCP), which is the first such software designed to capture data that can be analyzed by the Solid State Storage Technical Work Groups to gain insights into workload characteristics, key performance metrics, and guidance on improving SSD design. Demonstrations of the WIOCP will take place in the SSSI booth, with information on how individuals can join the effort.
The NVM Programming Technical Work Group was recently formed to provide guidance to operating system, device driver, and application developers in the form of specifications that describe the behavior of a common set of software interfaces that provide access to non-volatile memory (NVM). Members of the group will participate in a panel and discuss one of their focus areas, "NVM Accessed as Memory."
Also speaking at Storage Visions will be SSSI members Tom Coughlin (Coughlin Associates) who will deliver the opening keynote and Jim Handy (Objective Analysis) who will examine how new storage developments are driving new storage systems with SSSI member panelists Jim Pappas (Intel), Paul Wassenberg (Marvell), Mike Fitzpatrick (Toshiba), Paul Luse (Intel), and Sumit Puri (LSI). Jim Pappas will additionally moderate a panel on new frontiers in storage software with SSSI member panelists Walt Hubis (Fusion-io), Doug Voigt (HP), and Bob Beauchamp (EMC).
How to Get Involved
Any company interested in participating in the ongoing work of the SSSI is encouraged to join SNIA, SSSI, and the SSS TWG. Status on updates to the specification, related white papers, and industry articles can be found at www.snia.org/forums/sssi.
About the SNIA Solid State Storage Initiative
The SNIA Solid State Storage Initiative (SSSI) fosters the growth and success of the market for solid state storage in both enterprise and client environments. Members of the SSSI work together to promote the development of technical standards and tools, educate the IT communities about solid state storage, perform market outreach that highlights the virtues of solid state storage, and collaborate with other industry associations on solid state storage technical work. SSSI member companies represent a variety of segments in the IT industry (see http://www.snia.org/forums/sssi/about/members). For more information on SNIA's Solid State Storage activities, visit www.snia.org/forums/sssi and get involved in the conversation at http://twitter.com/SNIASolidState.
About the SNIA Solid State Storage Technical Work Group
The Solid State Storage Technical Work Group (SSS TWG) created and maintains a reference SNIA architecture to facilitate industry-wide adoption of common Solid State Storage Test requirements, methods, and specifications..
