SAN CARLOS, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/12/13 -- MarkLogic Corporation, provider of the only enterprise NoSQL database, today announced the availability of a free Developer License for MarkLogic® Enterprise Edition. The Developer License provides access to the features available in MarkLogic Enterprise Edition, including integrated search, government-grade security, clustering, replication, failover, alerting, geospatial indexing, conversion, and a suite of application development tools. MarkLogic also announced the Mongo2MarkLogic converter, a Java-based tool for importing data from MongoDB into MarkLogic providing developers immediate access to features needed to build out enterprise-ready big data solutions.
"By providing a free Developer License we enable developers to quickly deliver reliable, scalable and secure information and analytic applications that are production-ready," said Gary Bloom, CEO and President of MarkLogic. "Many of our customers first experimented with other free NoSQL products, but turned to MarkLogic when they recognized the need for search, security, support for ACID transactions and other features necessary for enterprise environments. Our goal is to eliminate the cost barrier for developers and give them access to the best enterprise NoSQL platform from the start."
By taking advantage of the Developer License for MarkLogic Enterprise Edition, developers can leverage the latest enhancements made available in MarkLogic® 6, including API's and tools for faster application development, business intelligence (BI) tool integration, powerful analytic functions and visualization tools, and the ability to create user-defined functions for fast and flexible analysis of huge volumes of data.
"The volume of structured and semi-structured data continues to grow exponentially in enterprises, and NoSQL databases and related application development tools are addressing the newer application use cases that deal effectively with all that data," said Evan Quinn, Senior Principal Analyst at ESG. "However, companies cannot afford to use NoSQL databases that sacrifice enterprise features such as availability, ACID transactions, and security -- features in which MarkLogic has already proven it excels."
The Developer License is free and gives developers a powerful, proven, and feature-rich enterprise NoSQL database and application platform to build upon. MarkLogic also announced a new Developer Training and Support Offering which includes training and six months of support designed to help jumpstart development of MarkLogic solutions.

MongoDB Converter
MarkLogic also introduced the Mongo2MarkLogic converter today. The new tool lets developers easily transfer data from their current MongoDB database into a MarkLogic database, allowing them to leverage key features that distinguish MarkLogic such as integrated search, ACID transactions, high availability, disaster recovery, and government-grade security. The tool reads JSON data from MongoDB's mongodump tool and loads the data into MarkLogic. After using Mongo2MarkLogic, developers can run full-text search on content and manage it securely and reliably in a fully ACID-compliant transactional database.
More information about the Mongo2MarkLogic converter can be found at http://developer.marklogic.com/labs/mongo2marklogic.
