SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/25/13 -- Concurrent, Inc., the enterprise Big Data application platform company, today announced that Paco Nathan, director of Data Science, will deliver a talk, titled "The Workflow Abstraction," at O'Reilly Strata Conference 2013, taking place Feb. 26-28 in Santa Clara, Calif. With the theme of "Making Data Work," the event will focus on core issues and opportunities specific to the Big Data community that are shaping the business, finance, media and government worlds. Additionally, an early copy of Nathan's "Enterprise Data Workflow with Cascading" book will also be available for viewing.

Session Description
Patterns of workflows provide recipes for integrating different frameworks, plus the means for optimizing large-scale applications. This session will review this approach in the context of a sample application based on the Cascading open source project. Nathan will also examine the notion of a "workflow" as a general abstraction for common use cases encountered in Data Science, particularly for building enterprise applications.

About the Speaker
Paco Nathan is director of Data Science at Concurrent, Inc., where he leads the company's developer outreach program. He holds a dual degree from Stanford in math/statistics and distributed computing, and has more than 25 years experience in the technology industry. Nathan is an expert in Hadoop, R, predictive analytics, machine learning and natural language processing. He has built and led several expert Data Science teams and is a frequent speaker at industry events.
