AREQUIPA, PERU -- (Marketwire) -- 03/14/13 -- SmartDTP, an international desktop publishing (DTP) service for the translation, localization and globalization industries, today announced that it is expanding its services in Asia with a new office in China. The office will open in early April in the city of Tianjin, 30 minutes by high-speed train from Beijing. This positions the company closer to its growing portfolio of clients wanting to localize technical materials both to and from character languages such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

The new office also provides SmartDTP greater access to desktop publishers who are native speakers of Asian languages, especially valuable when working with translation companies to localize their clients' materials. Translating these materials can significantly change a document's graphical layout, often requiring additional space to accommodate different character counts or writing directions.

In 2011, China received 526,412 applications, compared to 503,582 for the United States and 342,610 for Japan. Many of these patents result in technical products that require marketing materials that must be localized for the countries in which these companies want to do business.

The new office is located in the harbor city of Tianjin, the sixth largest city in China. With a freight-handling capacity of 240 million tons, one of the top 10 harbors in the world, Tianjin is home to 280 branches of Fortune Global 500 companies.
