BELLEVUE, WA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/09/13 -- ScaleOut Software, a leading provider of in-memory data grids (IMDGs), today announced the results of "Attitudes and Opinions Towards Hadoop and Real-Time Data Analytics," a survey that polled more than 150 attendees of O'Reilly's February 2013 Strata Conference. The survey, which aimed to gain greater insight into the proliferation of Hadoop deployments and the corresponding demand for real-time data analytics, suggested that Hadoop's current capabilities for real-time data analytics are seriously lacking.
According to the survey data, over 92 percent of organizations currently require or would benefit from real-time data analytics. However, more than 61 percent of respondents stated that they believe Hadoop is not an effective solution for real-time analytics. The survey also noted that over 77 percent of organizations are generating fast-changing, live data.
"There was an overwhelming consensus from the Strata attendees we surveyed that, while a powerful platform for big data, Hadoop falls short when it comes to real-time analytics," said Bill Bain, ScaleOut Software CEO. "The ability to process and analyze dynamic, fast-changing data quickly and efficiently is an increasingly important requirement for Hadoop users, as underscored by the results of this survey. We see a call to action for software vendors to respond to this clear-cut need in the Hadoop community."
Other findings from the survey included:
