POWAY, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/16/13 -- BridgeSTOR, LLC, the company Advancing Deduplication to the Cloud, today announced release of an enhanced and highly flexible version of the CRUNCH Virtual Deduplication Appliance, BridgeSTOR's 3rd generation deduplication and compression technology for Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM 2010/2012). Delivered as a VHD, CRUNCH can run as a Virtual Appliance in a Windows Server 2008 R2 or 2012 Hyper-V system, co-residing with DPM in a single physical server.
CRUNCH for DPM offers DPM 2010/2012 Storage Managers and Administrators unprecedented flexibility in adding and configuring data deduplication to Microsoft's "flagship" data protection offering. CRUNCH for DPM allows managers and administrators to entirely eliminate DPM storage pools by setting up a new deduplicated disk storage environment for DPM Recovery Points. CRUNCH for DPM is the only non-Microsoft product required to add deduplication to DPM. CRUNCH for DPM enables managers and administrators to continue using their existing, in-place storage newly augmented by deduplication.
CRUNCH for DPM data deduplication operates under the control of DPM, enabling deduplication strategies to be tailored and optimized for each Protection Group defined in DPM. Using DPM's Protection Group administrative services, CRUNCH for DPM can reduce the disk storage required by one or more Protection Groups, add a long-term disk archive to other Protection Groups and/or add both capacity savings and long-term disk archive capabilities to still other Protection Groups.
Data restoration from the CRUNCH DPM store back to protected servers is performed through a simple "drag and drop" operation that is familiar to every Windows user.
In addition to reducing DPM capacity requirements and adding a long-term disk archiving capability, CRUNCH for DPM also supplies "agentless" backup for NFS and CIFS clients that are currently unprotected by DPM. NFS, CIFS and DPM data can be stored on disk, tape and/or in the Cloud -- all in CRUNCH-deduplicated format.
Data deduplicated by CRUNCH for DPM may also be stored on physical magnetic tape in deduplicated form, greatly reducing the number of tape cartridges required to protect critical data while simultaneously reducing Iron Mountain transportation and storage costs.
"CRUNCH for DPM is the technology our customers have been asking for," says John Matze, CEO, BridgeSTOR, LLC. "The administrator or manager responsible for DPM storage capacity now has a capability -- never available before -- to customize an optimal deduplication environment for their installations. BridgeSTOR's CRUNCH for DPM is the answer to DPM's voracious storage appetite."
An all-new and comprehensive whitepaper describing CRUNCH for DPM's unprecedented configuration and implementation flexibility, titled: "CRUNCH for DPM Technology and Product Description" is immediately available through the BridgeSTOR website at: http://www.bridgestor.com/English/Resources/Whitepapers.html.
A CRUNCH for DPM Virtual Appliance trial can also be downloaded from the BridgeSTOR website at http://www.bridgestor.com/English/Landing_Pages/CRUNCHforDPM_30DayTrial.html.
CRUNCH for DPM is offered through a BridgeSTOR Deduplication as a Service (DaaS) subscription. Using DaaS, a user signs up for a period of time, receives value over that period and then, at the end of the subscription period determines whether or not to renew. If the customer decides not to renew they will always be able to recover data in CRUNCH. DaaS customers pay only for the services provided. Pricing is easy to understand because -- unlike many other data protection products -- there are no capacity or other variable charges. No CAPEX is required because BridgeSTOR's DaaS is a pure OPEX offering.
CRUNCH for DPM annual subscription fees start at $2,400.00 per instance. Contact BridgeSTOR sales for further detail.
