MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 05/02/13 -- The third season of the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Michelin has just gotten even more exciting. Porsche Cars Canada Ltd., has announced that the one-year use of a 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera would be offered to the Platinum category winner as this year's grand prize.

"For the past 50 years, the 911 has excelled on both the road and on the track," said Joe Lawrence, President & CEO, Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd. "This season's Platinum category winner will be able to experience our legendary sports car on a daily basis."

The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin is divided into two classes; Platinum Cup, featuring the more powerful 2010 - 2013 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, and Gold Cup which includes 2005 1/2 - 2009 Porsche GT3 Cup cars. Both classes run on Michelin Cup N1 tires.

The series consist of five weekends of racing with a total of ten championship races, including the Grand Prix du Canada FIA Formula One World Championship in Montreal, June 7-9. The season starts May 17-19 at Canadian Tire Motorsport and includes stops at the legendary Trois-Rivieres street circuit in Quebec and Calabogie Motorsports Park, near Ottawa.

Developed for Porsche one-make cups worldwide, the 911 GT3 Cup car is based on the 997-generation 911 GT3 RS road car. Its engine is largely identical to the road-going version, with the same output of 450 bhp and the same maximum engine speed of 8,500 rpm.

The Series is sanctioned by The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA), which has been the premier sanctioning body for professional road racing in North America since its founding in 1969.
